Split Cane and Equisetum Grass Designs

  • 8th March 2014

Another session in Cally’s garden workshop and this time we worked with split cane; a first for her faithful attendees.

We stapled the split cane into leaf shapes and then filled the “inside” with skeleton leaves. We then added these ‘leaves’ to our rectangular flower arrangement. To complete the design, we twisting some further cane around the whole arrangement.

The afternoon design proved to be rather labourious and tricky; wiring equisetum grass and bending them into squares of varying size. We connected three of these together and then laid them on top of each other on a low bowl to create a green framework. The bowl had previously been prepared with chicken wire and I chose to wire tulips into this mesh.
