Spring Trough and Heart Shaped Birch Twig Design

  • 8th February 2014

This was the first session of 2014 with lovely Carolynne "Cally" Meer; my regular flower arranging teacher (since 2008).

The usual suspects (including Mandy, Jean, Jenny, Jackie and Jane) braved cool temperatures in Cally's garden workshop to get creative again.

Our morning brief was to make a spring trough from a redundant freezer drawer (!?) - yes, Cally had only just taken a large delivery of said item in readiness of our class. We began by glueing twigs all around the trough and then arranged a fresh spring flower design inside. The whole ensemble was finished off with a raffia and wool ribbon.

During the afternoon, we made a heart shape out of birch twigs and then wired flowers onto this - perfect for Valentine’s Day. I chose to pop some gorgeous ranunculus into glass tubes to give this delicate flower some extra longevity.
