Sense of Place Flower Festival in Lancing Chapel
Mid August 2022, the Sussex Area of NAFAS put on a flower festival within the fantastic setting of Lancing College Chapel.
Lead Designer Linda Porrett tasked myself and my floral design partner, Sue Clancy, to create a tablescape in the foyer of Lancing College and her only stipulation was that our design should feature green and white. What an easy stipulation for someone who absolutely loves green!!
Borrowing an old oak table from the college, and draping it in a vintage tablecloth, we set about to create a fresh and bright tablescape using a medley of flowers in greens and whites, and the end result proved to be immensely popular with the visiting public which we were so pleased to hear.
We used white and clear glass, lots of pot plants as well and a few query touches to bring a smile to everyone's face.
When it came to the preview evening, I was amazed to discover that the drinks reception took place immediately next to our tablescape so all the dignitaries and such like saw our design first including lovely Yan Skates!
And the icing on our tablescape came fairly soon after the festival, when Judith Blacklock got in touch to say that she totally loved the botanical cake I had created as part of the design and asked whether the design could be featured in a future issue of Flora magazine. As you can imagine, it didn't take many seconds for me to agree to that request! And I am delighted to let you know that the cake is featured in their Autumn 2023 issue...
